Our journey began in Texas with a total of 20 check bags, 10 carry-on bags, and 10 backpacks. Somehow we managed to pack our personal belongings solely in our carry-on bags. The 20 check bags contained roughly 300 compassion bags for the kids we would be ministering to in Ecuador. Each compassion bag contained: basic toiletry items such as toothbrush, toothpaste, wash cloth, and soap, small toy, t-shirt, candy, etc. Along with the compassion bags we packed items for the missionaries, tie dye materials, skit props, and a variety of miscellaneous items.

We went by van to Houston where we boarded our plane that would take us directly to Quito, Ecuador. The flight lasted about five and a half hours. Boy, what a landing we had!

For those of you who may not be familiar with where Ecuador is, it is on the western side of South America. A little fun fact is that the Equator runs right through Ecuador. The weather is absolutely perfect there, but does vary depending on whether or not you are in the jungle or mountain regions.

The bus seen here was what seemed like our home on wheels. I calculated about how much time we spent on the bus, and I estimate between 20 and 24 hours total. Some perks of the bus were that we spent a lot of time talking with the interns, missionaries, and the other two church groups, worshiping, and seeing all of the beautiful scenery that is not common for us to see in the States.
